About Asunta

I dwell in possibility

Asunta was raised within the vibrant art scene of Kansas City, studying at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music with Metropolitan Opera stars and the Kansas City Ballet, able to perform in a semi-professional theater scene at an early age. Landing the role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz led her down the yellow brick road toward a vibrant and versatile career in the entertainment industry.  A degree in Vocal Performance sent her worldwide, touring as Maria in West Side Story as well as Rachel in Two By Two. She then continued her studies at the Brevard Opera Center working further with Metropolitan Opera stars, performing with Doc Severinson in concert, and also appearing in an operatic production of “FLORA” at the Dock Street Theatre filmed on PBS. In the middle of competing in the Miss Florida Pageant, she was selected out of thousands of hopefuls from across the country for a performance contract at Walt Disney World Florida, originating new Broadway-style shows as a “Kid of the Kingdom.” Her Disney duties included performing at the Canadian National Expo and touring Disney target markets nationally and abroad, as well as originating the popular show Fantasy Follies for Disney.

After joining the cast of “Hoop De Doo” and the acclaimed “Voices of Liberty,” she was chosen to host Walt Disney World Week, beginning her love affair with the hosting format. It was her acclaimed performance as Joan of Arc in Jean Annouills "The Lark" that persuaded her to take a contract with the Burt Reynolds Theatre, leaving Disney to work with such luminaries as Julie Harris, Charles Nelson Reilly Vincent Gardenia Charles Durning, as well as George Chakiris in straight shows and musicals like Stop the World I want To Get Off, Sweet Charity, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Mass Appeal. She went on to win a Carbonel award for GODSPELL, named one of Florida’s 50 Most Valuable People along with Jo Stafford, Burt Reynold’s, and Jimmy Buffet. After winning The Florida Star Discovery, Asunta took to the west to pursue television in Los Angeles, appearing in many national commercials including the “Stop and Go Girl” with the Dukes of Hazard—fame from which got her spotted to be the Travel Host on the Travel Channel, traveling, hosting, and working with foreign consulates and international talent.

TV continued including a recurring role on Days of Our Lives, Indy films opposite Eric Estrada, BL Stryker with Burt Reynold's. Her career took another path, and after authoring a popular fitness book and landing a publishing contract with Putnam books, Asunta appeared in many radio/book tours and eventually hosted her popular East-West coast radio show titled “Girl Talk.” Alongside her husband Jamie Fleming, Asunta has sat on numerous boards in Los Angeles including the LA County Museum of Art, The Joffery Ballet, Gene Autrey Western Heritage Museum, and the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, performing for fundraisers and raising millions of dollars for these esteemed institutions.

Moving to the warm city of Ojai to raise her daughter brought Asunta back to the stage where she played the fiery Kate in Kiss Me Kate for OACT and back to LA for the World premiere originating the role of ROSE in the Rose Bowl Queens, How Katrina Plays and Great Expectations at The Odyssey. Continuing her fundraising, she produced several popular Cabarets for the Ojai Film Festival with her husband as director, an event from which she was reunited with Stu Crowner and Joan Kemper, and led to her starring in OPATA productions I DO I Do, She Loves Me, and recently Grand Hotel. As a sought after vocal coach with her studio The Voice Studio/LA, her cabaret experience was put to full use when the husband/wife team began starring her students in both jazz and holiday styled concerts to raise money for the Nordhoff High School stage in town. As a proud mother and respected teacher, her greatest joy is cultivating and nurturing the talent of others, watching her students blossom with full careers and eternal possibilities in front of them.
